It's Not Bothering Me   Run Time: 4:17

Written by Bill Mallonee for CyBrenJoJosh (BMI) ©2000

tone of voice it's your choice
it's as plain as all the words your eyes betray
that's ok it's not bothering me
i understand catch your drift
it's not exactly like it's something you could miss
as hollow as the sea inside your (my) heart

there's a gate there's a fence
i tried twice but there's no getting over it
i thought the grass (cash) was greener there it's not
i hope your boat rides the storm
i hope you sleep where it is eternally warm
upon the waves of hollow seas inside your heart

in your heart that's the place
where you must answer the phone
for every word yeah that you speak
that leaves someone else alone

don't feel bad hey i don't
first you say you will and then you say you won't
i'm still your friend it's not bothering me
i plug in this guitar (air guitars)
and the chords are just a prayer up past the stars
like the spray (waves) from hollow seas inside your (my) heart

sure it's trippy sure it's sweet
it's as plain as all the words your eyes betray
that's ok
it's not bothering me

worn out suit no doubt borrowed
scent of old cologne railroads and sorrow
God's love shines through a prism
i'm so confused by calvinism (television)
honey meet me at my house
kiss me long (full) upon the mouth
like they do in san francisco

Did You Know?

On this cut, Randall Bramblett plays piano and mellotron. Bill has said this song alone is worth the price of the Room Despair project. In concert, Bill will occasionally preface this song with a few lines from "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay." In reference to the line about Calvinism, in concert Bill has expressed decreasing conviction about the strict 5-point Calvinism (TULIP) that he's been schooled in as a Presbyterian. As for the reference to San Francisco, Bill has called it an aromantic city that he loves... a reference he got second hand through Kerouac. The companion line about God's love shining through a prism? Bill says, "that makes rainbows, doesn't it? And we know what they stand for don't we?"

Appeared On…
