S.O.S.   Run Time: 3:40

Written by Bill Mallonee for CyBrenJoJosh (BMI) ©2001

ticking of the clock crash upon the rocks
this is it i guess s.o.s.
slowly took your best as you tried to stay afloat
you swallow what you can and the rest you sugarcoat
the guard just looked away and the moment has her say

she said these storms are too strong on the sea of my winter
look at me i'm all cursed with this thirst to remember
if my lips touch the host i will be alright
and (don't) we all feel the crush of velvet glove starlight

here's the trapeze act landing in your lap
kill the safety net s.o.s.
play hard then we're gone are we still having fun
then you break for home like jackie robinson
the spirit will take wings adagio for strings

Did You Know?

Bill says of "S.O.S.," "I still think it's beautiful... and wonderfully silly... fingerpicked and delicate here and there... closest thing to an Audible Sigh type track on the record... very Athens alt. country what 'er that is... a band on the downward spiral. I don't know who the "she" is in this one... feminine/sacramental/the weight of the world starlight makes another appearance as does the Holy Blessed Sacrament." The solo was played through an old Echo-plex. The phrase "the crush of velvet glove starlight" (taken from the lyrics of this song) was originally going to be the title for the Summershine album, but the record label at the time (Compass) rejected the idea. Bill says the phrase has to do with "the awesome nobility with which God has crowned us." So what does S.O.S. stand for? Save our ship? Same old sh**? Sh** on a shingle? Save our souls? According to Bill, it's the latter.

Appeared On…
