Astronaut (Air Born)   Year: 2002

Written by Bill Mallonee for CyBrenJoJosh (BMI)

another day of blues and greens
the same old fears and the sad routines
remember you should never ever color outside the lines
and you'll do fine
Dad's martinis are well made
and the grass is cut and the wife is laid
and the party's about to begin
it's time for me to comb my hair and to look my best
and to vanish into thin air

air is simply outer space
but lower to the ground so you can embrace it
i will i shall i must because become
just like one of those astronauts
but I forget when I forgot
when these parts of me went numb

something told me to breathe slow
and listen to mission control
so I might not use up whatever I had left
we all want to be airborne
early on some distant morn
bigger than a dream
and high over our blues and greens

we all watched with hope and pride
NASA in those sunny skies
over eight mile high above the coast of Florida
i never told I felt lost
the heat shield loose and falling off
space shot oh I might to distant borders
and all the people i could have been
like Alan Shepherd or John Glenn
space is cold no colder than this room

i remember falling down
was heading for the final splashdown
tv crews and frogmen everywhere
but the flotation device employed
they blew the hatch with shouts of joy
but they discovered no one was inside there
