Ammo (Go to Sleep)   Year: 2008 | Run Time: 7:31

Written by Bill Mallonee for CyBrenJoJosh (BMI)

i think it's coming together i think i can seize the day
and do battle with whatever gets in the way
read all my books and then i saw my doc
he was always watching his watch

i've got some pep talks taped to my mirror
some photographs upon my dashboard
it's all blown away with the breath of the past
it's all reduced to a whisper

will it call you by name and will i know its voice
does it gather you in far from shore
does it wash off the dust does it give you some food
does it hurt you more 'cause bad looked pretty good

well if it feels a little shaky they say that's to be expected
it's chemicals align then you'll see
i believed in you with a faith without seeing
i wished for once that you'd believe in me

i was told to tell the truth so i learned to hate myself
and every thought i had or adored
i pushed with all my might and i prayed with all my heart
but was too bruised to open any doors

does it wash off the blood does it comb your (tassled) hair
does your newborn skin smell sweet
does it mend up the holes from the ammo
do you convulse or just go to sleep

i wrote all the words to about a thousand songs
and then i sang them all like they'd be my last
i wrote all the words till i became invisible
then i forgot them all just as fast

if this bruised flesh and this tainted blood
is about as good as it gets
Christ i need a treasure one so pure
i won't know what to do with it

i'm weak from being strong 'cause i'm never the same
it's all dead silence in place of a hymn
and that daily wage of just soldiering on
that business that always seemed grim

Did You Know?

From Bill: "It's about the slender thread many folks have holding onto life. Let us all be aware of the words and encouragement we speak, even if that person is a total stranger. If we're God's creations, then there is no such thing as a 'stranger.'"

Appeared On…
