Making It Up As We Go Along   Run Time: 2:56

Written by Bill Mallonee for CyBrenJoJosh (BMI) ©2001

didn't hear that remark
they say it's hard to hit the moving target
a door can be a jar perhaps
please remember sir to mind the gap

and i stumble at your bed and it all goes to my head
but i blow that silver lock with savage kisses

hit it with a swagger
underneath we're not that strong
we are making it up as we go along

oh the shiny day to be
so close to the sea of your emotion
oh to drown inside your eyes
swim the skies and climb the deepest oceans

and i fumble with the lock go on the chopping block
and we never recognize when the lights go up

and i stumble at your feet and i've never been discreet
where did you get those sacramental kisses

Did You Know?

The title of this song refers to Bill's often-used analogy for what VoL does. Bill has said: "The only common denominator in my life as an artist and as a band member has been this: 'you make it up as you go along.'" The phrase "mind the gap" is a reference to notices in UK subways, reminding people to beware the space between the platform and train.
