True Confession   Year: 2004 | Run Time: 3:41

Written by Bill Mallonee for CyBrenJoJosh (BMI) ©2004

you're really only a prisoner when no dreams rule your heart
and you're really only free when you're doing your part
to bring a little goodness to the corner of a laugh
of someone in a world of hurt that won't be hard to find

i was up there on the mountain you were down there on the coast
somewhere i got my wires crossed when i needed you the most
so i took a shot of courage and i opened up my heart
and i turned on a flashlight but then it all got dark

if you don't like the subject of a true confession
if you don't want an answer don't ask us any question

it was the clang and bang of twelve strings now i don't mean to brag
but that tweed deluxe was righteous when we did that six string drag
but the pages of your lives fall into gradual disorder
'cause you colored outside the margins and you scribbled outside the borders

here's one for the losers and here's one for the winners
here's one for the saints and one for the sinners
my life was like a photograph but the focus wasn't clear
a little dirty around the edges til suddenly you appear

Did You Know?

Bill calls this one of his more "boastful tunes" and says: "I like the verse that summons the images of Fender Tweed Deluxes and six-string drags a great deal."

Appeared On…
