We Were Asking for It   Year: 1996 | Run Time: 4:40

Written by Bill Mallonee for CyBrenJoJosh (BMI)

now the rain is coming down in sheets
and it soaked my last match of hope
sometimes you see it all so clearly
from the end of your rope

and forgive me for going through the motion
ignoring those charts on my health
if i ever thought i was fooling you
i was kidding myself

go and call the doctor
from this bed i can't rise
see my sight is failing quickly
it might be my sure demise

once you feel your need
you see how you've been had
you cry out for the cure
that balm of gilead

and these are the dark days
people keep a stiff upper lip
these are the dark days
we were asking for it

and for those groping for a reason
to continue to care
and for those whose burden has grown
far too heavy to bear

and i'm sure there's a sermon here
but i confess i'm at a loss
you can believe all they say about yourself
or expose your holocaust

and these are the dark days
people shooting from the hip
these are the dark days
we were asking for it

you can turn your love to the outside
befriend all without wealth
you can turn your love to the inside
it's like killing yourself

big hopes are broken into pieces
big tears left so undried
big justice almost ceases
big love left untried

these are the dark days
it's hard to tell you're sick
these are the dark days
we were asking for it

Appeared On…
